The World Bank Institute (WBI) is at the forefront of the Bank’s efforts to promote learning and deliver to the stakeholders, the best thinking and experience emerging from around the world on issues crucial to reform and socio-economic development.
In 1987, the World Bank, with funding from the Government of Japan, established the World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (WBGSP) for graduate studies in subjects related to economic development. Each year, the Program awards scholarships to individuals from World Bank member countries to undertake graduate studies at renowned universities throughout member countries of the Bank. 2008 International Essay Contest for Young People

The theme for this year s contest is “My project to create positive change in my environment. How can I foster sustainable development in my community?” Please submit your innovative ideas and concrete plans/projects to address the social, cultural, environmental or economic problems faced by your community.

General Objectives
In 2004 the Public Finance and Regional Development (PFRD) team of the World Bank Office Jakarta and the Decentralization Support Facility for Eastern Indonesia (SOfEI) pioneered a Public Expenditure Analysis and Capacity Harmonization (PEACH). PEACH is a participatory public expenditure review (PER) that is designed to fit specific needs of a region and is followed by a set of capacity building activities. PEACH has two components. The first is the public expenditure analysis (PEA). This is the analytical part of the activities that requires local academicians to do the analysis. The second component is the capacity harmonization (CH) that requires local academicians to work together with local government and jointly design a set of capacity building activities based on findings and recommendations set by the PEA. Peserta seminar adalah para ilmuwan sosial, peneliti, aktivis LSM, dan pengambil kebijakan pemerintah maupun swasta. Salah satu usaha yang perlu dilakukan adalah meningkatkan interaksi yang lebih membangun antara aktor dan motor pembangunan (stakeholders) di setiap level/tingkat, antara pemerintah dan organisasi sipil termasuk juga komunitas pembangunan internasional. Pada tingkat nasional, kolaborasi dan interaksi antara stakeholders harus dapat menanggapi sekaligus menerapkan prinsip efektivitas, transparansi dan akuntabilitas. Upaya ini seyogyanya dapat diperluas hingga pada level lokal (Provinsi dan Kabupaten/Kota), agar tercipta interaksi secara vertikal antara pelaku di tingkat nasional dengan provinsi dan kabupaten/kota, maupun secara horisontal antara provinsi atau kabupaten/kota. Pelatihan ini sangat bermanfaat dalam peningkatan kapasitas staff dari lembaga yang bapak / ibu pimpin. Peningkatan kapasitas yang coba kami lakukan adalah peningkatan dalam level individual dan level managerial. Dengan mengikuti pelatihan CEFIL ini, diharapkan peserta semakin mampu untuk menjadi penggerak dan pemimpin di komunitasnya.
